Pool Pro Liquid Chlorine is a popular way of adding chlorine to pool water. One must be careful to keep it away from metal fixtures. For many years it has not been recommended for above ground pools due to the possibility of the salt content in the liquid coming into contact with metal framing thus having a corrosive effect on it.

Being liquid it is heavy to handle, although convenient to add to the pool. Liquid pool chlorine has a strength of 10-12% available chlorine. So in 10 litres of liquid chlorine some 88-90% is water.

Although it is inexpensive to purchase, it requires constant trips to the pool shop to continually purchase, and when compared to dry chlorine is often shown to be not as price competitive as one may believe. Household bleach is a weak solution of Liquid Chlorine. The chemical name is Sodium Hypochlorite which you can see on the label of your bleach bottle.

Recycle program

Our 15l chlorine drum buy back scheme is a rewarding offer to all. Simply return any old 15l drums and recieve either $10 off your next drum, or a $10 in store credit*.

All chlorine drums must be NO older than 5 years for us to be able to issue the credit. This is the maximum safe age that a drum can be used before it must be crushed. We will still accept old drums, however no credit will apply.

You can check the age of your empty drum by flipping it over to view the bottom. The dade of manufacture is stamped on! It will look something like this image:

In the example above, the numbers in the centre represent the year of manufacture, whilst the arrow pointing represents the month of production.

What happens after you drop it back?

Drums in date returned are freighted to the manufacturer to be cleaned. Pool Pro use a triple spray cleaning method to thoroughly clear out the container. After being cleaned, they then go through a safety inspection to ensure there is no damage to the drum. This includes checking the seal in the lid, and replacing any parts needed to ensure high safety standards.

From here, the drums are refilled, resealed, and shipped to our store to be sold again.

What about old drums?

For drums that are older than 5 years, they are still cleaned using the same process as a new drum, however they have another life after this. The drums are crushed into fine beads and used for a number of new purposes including:

  • New roads and resealing
  • Signage
  • Decking
  • Community furniture
    • Seats, play equipment etc.
